Welcome to the Tanzania Mammal Atlas Project website. The aim of the project is to assess the current distribution of large mammals across Tanzania; we are seeking to establish which mammals have experienced range expansions or range contractions in the past 30 years, and will use this information to develop species conservation action plans.

On this site you’ll find information on all of the larger species of mammal in Tanzania, including photographs, identification information, and updated maps showing recent sighting records. It will also showcase the results of our camera trapping surveys and highlight any particularly interesting mammals we might have seen. The site is interactive and we encourage you to enter your own records of large mammals that you’ve seen in Tanzania, which will be entered into our database.

If you have any questions or comments about mammals in Tanzania, please feel free to contact us.
