Instructions on identifying grid numbers
It is very important that you always mark your grid square number at the top of your species check-list.
Grid squares are identified and numbered using the lines of latitude and longitude. For the purposes of the Mammal Atlas project, every one degree square has been divided into four as shown and marked A, B, C and D. The longitude and latitude of the one degree square shown here are 29°E and 4°S, respectively. When identifying your grid square number, please first reference longitude (east) then latitude (south), in this example the four grid squares shown are numbered 2904A, 2904B, 2904C and 2904D.
As an example only, click on the Map button below to display a map of Tanzania. If you hold the cursor over a grid square, the grid reference will be displayed next to the cursor. Click on the map to copy this reference to the Grid ref box shown here.
