Key identification features

A tall, slender spotted cat with long legs, a relatively small head and distinctive black eye-stripe running from its eyes to the corners of its mouth. Has solid black spots. HB 100-150 cm. Wt 40-65 kg.

Habitat and social behaviour

Lives singly or in small family groups of up to 6 individuals. Found in open savannas and open bushland.

Similar species

Taller than leopards and have solid black spots rather than open rosettes.
