Key identification features

A very large antelope with a tawny brown body, a grey neck and a prominent dewlap. Both sexes have horns which are long and have a tight corkscrew spiral. HB 220-340 cm. Wt 300-900 kg.

Habitat and social behaviour

A social animal lives in large herds of up to 300 individuals. Found in open grasslands and bushland.
