Key identification features

A cat sized carnivore with a long slender body and a very pointy muzzle and long ears. It has a very long slender striped tail. It has dark slightly angular closely grouped markings. HB 41-50 cm. Wt 1-2 kg.

Habitat and social behaviour

It lives in rainforest or dense forest where it is often seen on the ground. It is a nocturnal and solitary animal.

Similar species

Only the large spotted genet is found in similar habitats. The Servaline genet is more slender and has more tightly grouped spots.
