Miombo genet (Angolan genet)

Key identification features

A cat sized carnivore with a long slender body and a very pointy muzzle and long ears. It has a very long striped bushy tail with a black tip. Small dark brown or black spots are irregularly arranged on its body. HB 44-48 cm. Wt 1.3-2 kg.

Habitat and social behaviour

It occurs in miombo forest, it prefers the more moist woodlands and the vegetation on riverbanks. It is a nocturnal and solitary animal.

Similar species

The spots of the miombo genet are smaller than the large spotted genet, have a more irregular orientation than the common genet and are less angular and more widely spaced than the servaline genet.
