Side striped jackal

Key identification features

A long-legged jackal with light underparts, a grey-black back and a white stripe along the side, which can be more or less pronounced. HB 75-85 cm. Wt 6-13 kg.

Habitat and social behaviour

Found singly or in pairs. Inhabits savannas, bushland and light woodland.

Similar species

Readily distinguished from the other two jackals by the white tip on its tail.
