Similar species
It can be easily distinguished from most mongooses by its small size and its social habits. It is possible that its range overlaps with the Somali dwarf mongoose in the very north east of the country. The Somali dwarf mongoose has longer shabbier fur and a greyish colour with slightly yellowish reddish coloured under parts.
