Vervet monkey

Key identification features

A small monkey with a grey green back, white under-parts, and a black face fringed with white. Head and body length: 45 - 80 cm. Tail: 55 - 110 cm.

Habitat and social behaviour

Found across a diverse range of wooded and semi-wooded habitats. Common in cultivated and urban areas. Found in family groups of 8 to 20 individuals.

Similar species

Blue monkey is larger and darker, with a dark underbelly.
