Phacochoerus africanus

Key identification features

A medium sized grey pig with large warts on the side of its face and prominent, up-curved tusks. Has a small black or brown mane extending from the top of its head to the center of its back. Tail often carried erect. HB 100-140 cm. WT 60-130 kg.

Habitat and social behaviour

Travels in family groups of 2 parents and their offspring. Found in open savannas, bushland and forest edges.

Similar species

Bushpig has smaller tusks, more body hair which is red or black.
